The Young Fireman

He is young and he's tired and his boots are so wet
but he knows he's not able to give this up yet.

He is hoping he'll wake up from a really bad dream
and things won't be quite so bad as they seem.

But that won't happen and he knows this is true
as he sees the torn pieces of our red, white and blue.

He is so weary and his hopes were so high
but now as he cries, he asks himself "Why?"

"Why did I make it?" he keeps repeating
and people around him can hear his heart beating.

He feels someone's arms wrap around him so light
but when he turns to say thanks, there is no one in sight.
He doesn't question who is drying his tears

He just says, "Thank you so much for calming my fears."
"I know there is still much for me to do
but I just needed a special hug from you."
